WHAT:

On Valentine's Day 2007, community leaders will hand out postcards depicting immigrant families torn apart by Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids. By highlighting the cost to the fabric of immigrant families and communities, Massachusetts will join the nationwide call for a moratorium on deportations. Furthermore, leaders will ask commuters to open their hearts to the plight of hard-working immigrant men and women, and call on President Bush to fight for fair, just immigration policies.

WHO: Massachusetts Immigrant Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA)
National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC)

WHERE: South Station, Boston

WHEN: Wednesday, February 14th, 2007
8:00am to 8:30am

WHY: Recent ICE raids around the country and here in Massachusetts have created orphans, many of whom are US citizens. Hard-working immigrant parents, productive members of our communities, are being rounded up, jailed, and deported with no consideration for the tragic consequences for effected families, communities, and businesses

VISUALS: With a giant milk carton emblazoned with profiles of the MISSING, concerned community leaders will hand out postcards that match the powerful images on the carton. This event is scheduled regardless of weather.

The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) works to advocate for the rights and opportunities of immigrants and refugees. In partnership with its members, MIRA advances this mission through education, training, leadership development, organizing, policy analysis and advocacy.
